Since the academy is temporarily closed we needed to start thinking of new ways to continue sharing useful fitness and martial arts information with our community. Check out FaMA Recommendations, a wide range of useful and fun content curated from the FaMA team.

KRU/COACH

Jerel

If you have a resistance band at home, this is a convenient and effective workout by Phil Daru, the strength and conditioning coach for American Top Team. Using a resistance band in this type of way is beneficial to practitioners of BJJ and Muay Thai, as it can lead to greater transferability of strength and conditioning during combat sports. So no excuses, get up and give it a go!

TEACHING ASSISTANT

Kinaree

After ten years of non-stop training and competition, not being able to roll for a few months forced me to consider a lot of things. I concluded that the primary factor holding me back from scaling my performance higher was my weakness with time management. If I can improve my ability to manage time, then it will enable me to train more, study more, and achieve more – all while reducing the stresses associated with preparing for championships, exams, and other extracurriculars.

I found a lot of online tools for developing time management skills and disciplines. Here is an example.

My goal upon returning from the Circuit Breaker is to use these tools and methods to manage my time. I believe this will enable me to train at FaMA for more hours each week and to keep winning championships, without creating a conflict or crisis in other areas of my life where I have important objectives.

Damien Trainor - 2x Muay Thai World Champion

I've been following his account for quite some time and I always look forward to his tutorials and combos. I love his combos as he really preaches what he does. For example, he will show you a technique and provide real-life footage of himself executing it in a real match. He also explains the rationale of his combos and how to apply them. Recently, he's been doing something called 'Lockdown Combo' that everyone can follow along at home without the need for equipment. He also includes explanations on why the combos are in such a sequence.

This video is probably one of the most important dialogues I’ve come across when I started BJJ in order to help me understand what happens during a fight where BJJ is applied. It helped me understand the basics of how to apply BJJ when sparring, in a self defence situation, and the basic evolution of Jiu Jitsu.

Even though John Danaher sounds like a Bond villain on this episode of the Joe Rogan Experience podcast, the 4 part system he puts across about BJJ helped me so much keeping it simple and direct.
