Starting your one-week trial at FaMA soon, and wondering which class is suitable for you?
Our Muay Thai classes are for everyone, but not every level is. Depending on your skill and ability, allow us to direct you to the right level that will give you the best training experience!
1. The Freshie
Characteristics:
Zero Muay Thai or striking-based experience
Concerned that Muay Thai might be too challenging or strenuous
A complete newbie to fitness, looking forward to getting started from scratch
Suitable class: Muay Thai Fundamentals
An absolute beginner? No clue about kicks, punches, stances, or even how to wrap your hands? This is where you can get started. The class is for those with no prior experience in striking-based martial arts. Here, you will learn the fundamental essentials of Muay Thai, such as stance, movement, footwork, defense, blocks, punches, kicks, elbows, and knees.
And yes, this is where you will learn to wrap your hands. That way, you don’t have to worry about the awkward pre-class struggle of doing so, or resorting to asking a senior or the teacher to do it for you.
After learning the fundamentals, you will then be able to smoothly transition to our Muay Thai Basic class.
2. The Fitness Regular
Characteristics:
You have tried Muay Thai before, and are familiar with the fundamentals
Keen to take up Muay Thai to stay trim and fit
Suitable class: Muay Thai Basic
In this class, you will continue to learn and practice techniques through a series of minimal contact partner drills. Offense and defense techniques are combined to help students gain a better understanding of body mechanics, distance, and timing.
Students will also be introduced to pad work with our instructors. Pad work is an excellent routine that helps to develop physical conditioning while allowing you to apply your understanding of the techniques and the different ranges to use them. Students unanimously agree that pad work, while physically challenging, is the best way to improve one’s stamina, sharpen technique, and achieve weight loss!
3. Amateur Kickboxer
Characteristics:
You’ve been practicing Muay Thai for a while and love it!
You are looking for a challenge beyond basic drills and fitness-focused classes
You don’t mind getting into a bit of light sparring
Suitable class: Muay Thai Intermediate
Game for a more significant challenge? Here, Muay Thai is no longer just a means to lose weight and stay fit - you are keen to apply your techniques into the art form. In the Intermediate class, you can expect a more rigorous training regime, which includes offensive and defensive strategies, as well as sophisticated techniques that you can apply in sparring.
And yes, there will be light sparring involved.
4. Aspiring Nak Muay!
Characteristics:
You’ve lived and breathed Muay Thai for a while, and now wish to take your love for the martial art to another level
You aspire to participate in a Muay Thai match, and desire to get the best training and guidance under an experienced, world-class trainer
Suitable class: Muay Thai Advanced
Certainly not for the faint of heart, our Muay Thai Advanced involves live clinching and sparring sessions mediated by our instructors. This class is perfect for those interested in developing cardio and conditioning for competition, as well as those looking to continue improving their striking and self-defense skills.
If you’re crazy (and experienced) enough to attend this class, do bring your own protective equipment.
